Description

DESCRIPTION

With limited supervision, the Diesel Mechanic III performs maintenance and repair of complex equipment in a safe and professional manner. Must be able to effectively perform all duties of lower-level mechanics I and II.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES

DESCRIPTION:

Using some degree of independent judgement, responsible for the safe maintenance and repair of a variety of complex equipment and tools involving mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and diesel systems:

  • Perform intermediate level diagnostics and repairs on a variety of equipment and systems utilizing working knowledge of schematics and diagrams
  • Assist in the training of lower level technicians as needed

OTHER SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Must own tools applicable to position
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools
  • Demonstrated teamwork and customer service skills
  • Working knowledge of company computer systems
  • Demonstrated time management skills
  • Working knowledge of schematics and diagrams
  • Working knowledge of heavy equipment; manufacturers’ warranty process; work orders
  • Requires mechanical background knowledge of various engines
  • Possess the verbal aptitude required, in regard to communicating internally with supervisors, and the necessary information to complete the assigned tasks
  • Ability to coach and mentor less experienced service mechanics

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Activities requiring handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by utilizing hand tools, power tools, air tools, nut, bolts, electronic controls, and other small parts.
  • Frequent liftingΒ 
  • Exposure to bright light, extreme temperature, loud noise, dust, gas, or fumes
  • Work in unprotected weather elements
  • Ability to bend, kneel and work with arms raised for prolonged periods of time
  • Ability to walk and stand on concrete and uneven surfaces for at least 4 hours per day
  • Ability to climb over and into heavy equipment several times per day
Requirements

EDUCATION

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid drivers licenseΒ 
  • Trade school training preferred
  • Manufacturer sponsored training a plus

EXPERIENCE

  • Β 3-5 years of experience repairing / maintaining vehicles and equipment
Salary Description
$21-$26, DOE, plus benefits
