Description

River Run manages the shared services organization supporting both Newburyport Bank and Pentucket Bank. While both Banks maintain their independent, mutual community bank status, working in tandem under River Run provides scale to the organization. Working together under River Run provides greater opportunities for advanced products and services and operational efficiencies. This will establish River Run as a dominant, sustainable, independent, and full-service mutual community banking partnership in the Northeastern Massachusetts and Southern New Hampshire markets. 


The Senior Accounting Specialist position is responsible for performing a variety of functions within the Finance department. This includes, but is not limited to, reconciliations, journal entries, GL mapping, investment activity, and various other requirements. This role requires an ability to communicate effectively with members of other departments within the bank and outside vendors. The Senior Accounting Specialist will report directly to the AVP of Accounting.


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reconcile and verify numerous general ledger and internal checking accounts. Timing of these accounts will be on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Create and enter journal entries for various purposes within the department.
  • Manage various accounting responsibilities for multiple banks, service corporation and holding companies.
  • Manage the GL and product mapping process across a multi-bank organization.
  • Assist in the month end and year-end closing process including monthly/annual accruals.
  • Assist with regulatory reporting such as the quarterly Call Report.
  • Assist with internal and external audit and exam requests.
  • Coordinate and document all investment purchase and sale transactions and all post-transaction verifications.
  • Review and process investment month end activity in the general ledger and through third-party investment software provider. 
  • Manage the creation and maintenance of various database reports used to capture information from the core processing system.
  • Provide backup for various functions within the accounting department.
  • Numerous special projects and research as required by the AVP of Accounting and/or Accounting Manager.
  • Manage and support other accounting and financial reporting processes as needed.


Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance is required. Five years prior experience in a bank setting is preferred, however similar equivalent experience would be considered. 
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Strong analytical and time management skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Detail oriented and ability to work successfully with deadlines and time constraints.
  • Proficient computer skills including Excel and Word with the ability to learn specific software. 
  • Knowledge of investment systems and integration with general ledger.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • General office and organizational skills. 

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
